The truth was, I did cherish it deeply, the heart I held in my hands; but unlike a precious antique, I wasn't as gentle as I should have been. I played with this heart as though it were my favorite toy, not knowing it was as fragile as glass. The next thing I knew, I had squeezed too hard and shattered it to pieces, breaking not only the heart, but the soul it belonged to as well.
